Letter from the President

May 10, 2023

Dear TCVSCPA Members:

Welcome to the Tidewater Chapter’s 2023-2024 fiscal year. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Daniel Cook, our immediate Past President, and the entire board for their dedication and service to this organization during this last fiscal year.

Over the last year, the board continued to offer CPE credit hours through webinars.  We received a great deal of positive feedback, both on the quality and convenience of the course material. During this past year we were able to provide nearly 70 hours of quality CPE to our members. Our intention is to make the webinars permanent and to offer a similar number of CPE hours for this fiscal year. The courses will include a combination of A&A credit, not-for-profit credit and our required ethics credit.

Although most of the courses will be offered by webinar, we are working on getting back to in-person courses as well. Our goal is to host at least one in-person seminar this year. More information will follow as soon as we have the details to share with you.

For our social events, we were able to host our annual Tides Game outing and our Holiday Top Golf; thankfully, both were well attended.  We look forward to hosting both again this year and, in addition, we are discussing combining an in-person CPE class with a social event.  We look forward to sharing dates and details of our events soon.

Our website is now accepting membership renewals. This year, membership fees are $150 if paid by June 15th and $155 after that date. We continue to believe we are offering a great value to our members. Please do not forget to pay your VSCPA dues as well. VSCPA registration opens May 1st and the deadline is May 31st

If you have tried to visit our website, you may have noticed it is down. We are working on a new and improved version that will be up and running as soon as possible. We do apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you in the meantime. Please reach out to us if we can be of any assistance. The new website will be more user friendly and will enhance your user experience.

To close out our last fiscal year, we were able to make a $5,000 donation to the local food bank as well as a $4,000 donation to local animal shelters and animal food pantries. Without our membership – this would not have been possible. We can all take pride in knowing that we have contributed to the Hampton Roads Community in a positive way.

Finally, we ask you to reach out to us with any ideas or suggestions on ways our Tidewater Chapter can improve what we do for our members, our profession and the Hampton Roads community.  Thank you all for your membership and we look forward to another great year.

Sincerely,

Laura J. Langton, CPA

TCVSCPA President
