Dear TCVSCPA Members:
I would like to welcome you to the challenging Covid-19 pandemic world. Our world is drastically altered due to this pandemic and may never be the same. Certainly, there are aspects of our jobs and social life that are changed. However, life goes on and the timer of life continues to tick. We are still required to complete our daily task, despite the added obstacles. The first thing I would like to do is thank our Immediate Past President, Debbie Acors, for her superior service. I would also like to thank our entire board for their dedication and service through the years. One of our goals this year, is to reduce your struggles during this period of uncertainty. You may be wondering how we will conduct the CPE training this year and that is a very good question.
We are planning to use live webinars and hopefully in-person training as well. The Virginia Board of Accountancy has no plans to change CPE requirements at this time, so keep this in mind as you take your CPE classes this year. We will hold in person seminars only if it is perfectly clear everyone will be safe and protected. Not-for-profit day is in the planning stages now and we will share details as soon as they are available. We are still planning eight sessions of Ethics this summer in July and August. Registration will open later in June for Ethics training which will likely be in a live webinar format.
We are not raising the membership fees this year. They will remain $165 and increase to $170 for any dues paid after July 15, 2020. We hope this will help with the financial challenges. The fee will continue to bring you some of the best CPE learning available. It also typically includes a baseball game, holiday celebration, and young leaders/student activities. All of these events will be pending the status of the pandemic. Please stay tuned as we communicate the decisions of the board after gleaning feedback from the membership. Do not forget to pay your VSCPA dues. VSCPA registration opens May 1 and the deadline is May 31st. This year, when paying your VSCPA dues, you will be directed to the TCVSCPA to pay the chapter dues as well.
Lastly, we ask that you reach out to us with any ideas on ways the Tidewater Chapter could help during this extraordinary time. Thank you all for your membership and dedication to our profession and remember: this too shall pass.
Sincerely,
Jennifer N. French, CPA
TCVSCPA President
